New Year's Resolutions and Other Such Nonsense

A wonderful friend of mine sent me a poem she thought I'd like, and she was right. Hence the creation of the blog that I've had forever but have not done anything with.

In case you're wondering, the poem's "From Childhood's Hour" by Edgar Allen Poe.

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then—in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life—was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent or the fountain,
From the red cliff or the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed my flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

I really enjoyed this, and I thought to myself "Hey, why not do something with this blog that's been sitting around gathering dust since the dinosaurs." Since the dinosaurs indeed. But that's just one of the ways in which the mind works, so I'll just have to accept that bit for now.

This now means that my first resolution for the new year is completed (Start a blog and post on a somewhat-regular basis). I mean, I've only got a few more to go, as I try not to make too many because I know I'm setting myself up to fail.

1. Start a blog and post on a somewhat-regular basis.
2. Make more time for reading and the cultural enrichment of the mind.
3. Actually do homework the night before, not during the period before.
4. Annoy people until they go completely insane.
5. Begin learning German, Russian, and Polish.
6. Study for AP Chemistry every day rather than dancing around trees the night before a test and hoping the snow gods listen.
7. Complete all resolutions.

Seven's a good number. I like seven, although I prefer thirteen simply because more people don't. And look, I only have five and six-sevenths more resolutions to go. Hopefully I can keep up the progress.
